John Spahr, Sergeant, USAF
John Spahr served in the United States Air Force from 1965 through 1968 as a Communications Center Specialist. His overseas duty was at Osan AFB, Korea. Following his Honorable Discharge, he worked for Allstate Insurance Company as the Administrative Assistant to the Regional Sales manager before being hired to serve on the Lawrence Township Fire Department in the Indianapolis area. Spahr then retired from the Fire Department as Deputy Fire Chief after 25 years of service and moved to Texas. Upon arriving in The Lone Star State, he became involved in the Veterans of Foreign Wars and has held every state Command position including State Commander. He has received numerous honors in the VFW including, the prestigious J.T. Rutherford Award as the Top Texas VFW member. Following his term as State Commander, Spahr continues to be very active in the VFW as a member of the National Legislative Committee as well as several other veteran-related organizations, including Honor Flight Austin and the Ageless Aviation Dreams Foundation.
